Causes of Acne
There are several underlying causes of acne which range from the blocking of the skin's hair follicles to hormonal imbalance. Other common acne causes include the infection of the sebaceous glands, excessive oil secretion and combinations of these things. Some labor under the notion that poor personal hygiene causes acne, which, of course, is not true. This myth probably has its inception with the way blackheads look, and because acne is associated with oily skin rather than dry. Acne is most common during the early to late teen years.
It would be safe to say that all of us, at one point or the other in our lives, have experienced the pain and embarrassment of an acne pimple or two. The pharmaceutical industry profits a great deal from the numerous lotions, ointments and gels that hordes of consumers buy to deal with the pain and heartbreak of acne.
In some rare cases, acne causes could be attributed to poor or ineffectual diet. But whatever the acne cause, it is better to visit a dermatologist to find out the exact source of the acne and to find out the best way to eradicate it.
Since acne is such a common malady that effects so many and is not life-threatening, most people go to the nearest pharmacy to buy one of the several acne treatment products available. And the shelves are full of them! Pharmaceuticals all over the world are well aware of the obsessive need of all of us to get rid of acne. And they have left no stone unturned to provide us with as many remedies and near remedies as possible.
However, using one of these products without determining the cause of your acne could be harmful. If you don’t know what causes your acne breakouts in the first place, it would be difficult to treat it. Because of the many causes of acne and individual reactions to it, what works for one person would not necessarily work for another.
Unless someone consults a dermatologist to find out what has caused their particular bout of acne, there is no sure way of finding the best treatment or cure. But, I'm sure, most people who have acne will continue to treat it with over-the-counter medications.
